WhatsApp
Under the EU’s Digital Markets Act, messaging apps can become interoperable with WhatsApp, a bit like Gmail and Outlook exchanging email. Balsio (then BirdyChat) was one of the first two apps Meta announced as third-party chat partners in Europe, in November 2025. Other apps can join over time.
Both sides opt in. The WhatsApp user turns on third-party chats, and you turn on WhatsApp chats in Balsio.
On Balsio’s side it works on iPhone, iPad and Android today.
Calls are not part of it yet.
How Balsio and WhatsApp connect.
No account linking.
Balsio and WhatsApp stay separate apps. Enter a phone number, send a message, and it arrives in WhatsApp.
End-to-end encrypted.
Messages use WhatsApp’s own encryption, even across apps.
Your work identity.
WhatsApp users see your work email, not your personal phone number.
In Balsio:
New Chat, then New WhatsApp Chat, then Enable WhatsApp Messaging. Once per device.
Your contact, in WhatsApp:
Account, then Third-party chats, then turn on Balsio.
Until your contact turns it on, the chat shows that their WhatsApp is not ready yet. Tap Send Instructions and Balsio sends them the steps on WhatsApp.
Switzerland and the UK are not in the EEA and are not covered.
Clients, suppliers and field teams often end up in the same chat app as your friends and family. Balsio gives work its own place, with your team, your channels and your AI agents in one work chat, so work conversations stay with the company and your personal number stays private.
